Anyone watching Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on BBC4? I’ve had the books for YEARS and haven’t even read them yet. The 2nd episode was on yesterday and I caught up with the show.
It’s basically a poor man’s Sherlock and John, but sillier. XD I love Stephen Mangan (also of course Our Overlord And Saviour Douglas Adams), so I had to check it out and it’s kinda fun.

If Moffat’s talk is to be believed (which, I know, it rarely is) and they’re trying to get some new Sherlock out by the end of THIS YEAR, I’m going to freak! Eeeeeeeeeeee~ Is this what normal fandom waits feel like? Magical. Edit: Haaaaa, okay, never mind. Several people told me that Sue Vertue debunked this. But yeah, I can see how that would have been VERY unlikely, especially with the busy schedules of the actors (and filming a 90min piece takes very long anyway) Can you imagine Sue scolding her husband for all the twitter fan-baiting? Because I totally can. XD

But how can Sherlock continue solving crimes after Reichenbach?

He’s been discredited at the Yard and EVERYWHERE else. Lestrade would want him to solve cases again (after thoroughly punching him), but of course the higher-ups wouldn’t want that at all and will keep a very close eye on Lestrade if it gets known that Sherlock isn’t dead after all.

There will be a HUGE media circus, much more so than before. Sure, the public memory is short at best, but the press would just dig it all up again, you can’t keep that from happening if THE Sherlock Holmes reappears. If he returns victorious, having taken down all of Moriarty’s henchmen or whatever, I still doubt that they would see him favourably or even believe him (after all it was all done undercover -going by the book canon- and everyone had thought for years that Sherlock hired Moriarty as an actor), and you can’t just turn the public opinion like that again.
I’m sure Mycroft will be able to pull some strings, but honestly… I don’t even know.


So what. WHAT. Will they just keep pretending he’s dead and make it an underground thing (oh my god I would LOVE that, but of course that’s not how it’s going to play out), or are they going to pretend that there aren’t going to be ramifications that big, or…?

So how much of Sherlock’s “note” to John was real?

I mean obviously he had a plan. Was it one of his fake crys? John couldn’t see his face from down there anyway, just hear it in his voice. Was he genuinely upset and desparate at the idea of going into hiding? Possibly, but maybe not that much… hmmm.
I think he was genuinely upset (and after all it could have gone wrong and he could have actually died from the fall), but I can’t tell if he didn’t amp it up to make it look more real to John.


Edit: OKAY YOU GUYS, YOU CONVINCED ME. I AM GOING TO BURY MYSELF IN THE FIC MEME AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW. I CAN DEAL WITH THESE EMOTIONS AS MUCH AS SHERLOCK, WHICH IS TO SAY NOT AT ALL.
