But how can Sherlock continue solving crimes after Reichenbach?

He’s been discredited at the Yard and EVERYWHERE else. Lestrade would want him to solve cases again (after thoroughly punching him), but of course the higher-ups wouldn’t want that at all and will keep a very close eye on Lestrade if it gets known that Sherlock isn’t dead after all.

There will be a HUGE media circus, much more so than before. Sure, the public memory is short at best, but the press would just dig it all up again, you can’t keep that from happening if THE Sherlock Holmes reappears. If he returns victorious, having taken down all of Moriarty’s henchmen or whatever, I still doubt that they would see him favourably or even believe him (after all it was all done undercover -going by the book canon- and everyone had thought for years that Sherlock hired Moriarty as an actor), and you can’t just turn the public opinion like that again.
I’m sure Mycroft will be able to pull some strings, but honestly… I don’t even know.

So what. WHAT. Will they just keep pretending he’s dead and make it an underground thing (oh my god I would LOVE that, but of course that’s not how it’s going to play out), or are they going to pretend that there aren’t going to be ramifications that big, or…?

This was the WORST beginning ever. ;_; Hit me right in the gut. JOHN. Oh god. I hadn’t expected anything like this so early. I thought it was way more effective than just waiting for a sad ending, since we expected that anyway. BY GOD JOHN.
It’s been 18 months and he can’t even say Sherlock’s name. It’s like he hasn’t even talked at all about him… and buried it so deep that it’s almost impossibly painful to bring up again. Or, has it been 18 months? They said it had been that long since he’s been to his therapist, anyway.
And he was so worried for Sherlock throughout the episode. :/ and Sherlock of course HAD to run off on his own all the time.
And on a completely different note: Was that a nod to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with Martin Freeman in bathrobe and towel over his shoulder? Or am I just seeing things where there are none?

Moriarty was SPLENDID. AND I MEAN FUCKING BRILLIANTLY FANTASTICALLY SPLENDID. Especially the first few scenes, gawd yes. And in court. AND WHEN HE JUST STUMBLED INTO THE JOURNALIST’S LIVING ROOM OH MY GOD. Amazing. Too bad he’s dead for real. D: Probably, anyway.
And Molly. Oh my word, her little offer of help, when she said Sherlock looked sad when he thought John wasn’t looking… MY HEART. What did she do for him? Confirm his death when he really wasn’t? Will she be the only person to know or does Mycroft know as well, like in the books?

Oh, and Sally. WTF. I WANTED TO LIKE YOU. Honestly, I think I read this fanfic where they think Sherlock is a criminal mastermind and gang up on him a few times. Maybe Moffat has, too. >_>

The ending… it seems to me that the more time passed, the LESS John was actually able to deal with Sherlock’s death. Maybe he had honest hopes that he wasn’t really dead in the beginning (he seemed more composed when he was at the grave early in the timeline). What will he be like after 3 years? SHERLOCKKKKKK, YOU’RE BREAKING THE MAN. ]:
